Description
Key Actions of Phytoconstituent:-
Glycyrrhiza glabra: It can inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutants, Streptococcus sanguis, and Enterococcus faecalis.Glabridine has antibacterial activities against some strains and it was more active against gram positive strains than gram-negative.
Adhatoda vasica: It also has the antibacterial activity against Gram positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It shows antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus vulgaris and Klebsiella pneumoniae
Curcuma longa: It shows broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity for curcumin including antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and antimalarial activities. The antimicrobial activity of it is reported to be due to the presence of essential oil, curcumins, and curcuminoids. It inhibits the growth of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The ability to inhibit the growth of test pathogen is an indication of its broad spectrum antimicrobial potential which may be employed in the management of microbial infections.
Solanum xanthocarpum: It is known for medicinal uses like anthelmintic, antipyretic, laxative, anti-inflammatory, antiasthmatic, and aphrodisiac activities. It inhibits the growth of Gram negative bacteria S. aureus and E. coli. It exhibits mild to moderate inhibition over the growth of tested bacterial pathogens.
Piper nigrum: It is known to inhibit food pathogenic bacteria. The antimicrobial activity shows that the bacterial cells were destroyed by inhibiting the tricarboxylic acid pathway of the bacteria. The extract significantly reduces ATP level in bacterial cells. It also destroys the permeability of the cell membrane, which consequently caused metabolic dysfunction, inhibited energy synthesis, and triggered cell death.
Ocimum sanctum: The medicinal extract completely inhibits the growth of Staphylococcus aureus (including MRSA) and Escherichia coli and partly inhibits the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Since S. aureus (including MRSA), P. aeruginosa and E. coli are major pathogens causing skin and soft tissue infections, it acts as valuable antimicrobial agent for management of skin infections caused by these organisms.
